adjustment on
The Impala Sport carries a plate ignition magnetic breakers (platinum).
is based on the known principle of operation whereby a rotor with magnets on the perimeter rotates with the crankshaft of the engine. The rotor magnets rotate around a fixed plate holder coils (stator). The generated magnetic field induces current in these coils.
This stream will be utilized for two situations. A group of coils generate power for the electrical components of the bike (lights, horn, etc. ..). Another coil current to generate power plug, and make the spark jump between the electrodes. We refer here to the adjustment of this second system.
If we have the bike disassembled, begin by placing the stator in the crankcase, in that position that "suspect" was mounted at the beginning.
tighten the screws that hold the stator ...
We mounted magnetic plate by snapping it into the slot provided for that purpose.
With this set, we turn to hand the plate (rotor) until we get the maximum aperture of the points (closest point of the piston around TDC). That measure with a gauge opening them, which should be 0.4 mm
If the opening is not correct, with the plate in that position we loosen the screw holding the switch (platinum) and move slightly as appropriate, to open or close contacts of the switch over. Tighten the screw, turn to gauge and repeat the process as many times as needed until you have the required opening distance.
With maximum aperture of the contacts of the switch is properly adjusted, we proceed to determine the point of ignition advance, which should be 3.0 to 3.5 mm before TDC
bluntly, the points are separated just at the moment when the piston is at 3.0-3.5 mm before reaching the end of his career, that is, before peak. At the moment the contacts open, is when the spark jumps the spark plug.
To this end, a comparator, or caliper, or pencil, or stick ... seek piston TDC by turning the plate to right (clockwise rotation). When we find this point, we reverse the plate until the piston down from 3.0 to 3.5 mm. That is the exact point of ignition advance, and that's the exact point where the points should be opened.
To know whether open or not the points, the best way is to use a multimeter, looking for continuity between the switch and mobile leg mass motor. When there is no continuity, open the points.
Indeed, continuity is not interrupted (infinite resistance) as the mobile foot switch is connected to the condenser and low-voltage winding and ground it. If you can appreciate an increase in resistance. But to be sure, just before the switch is to disconnect the cable that connects it to the condenser and coil.
We turn the plate until we find the position which opens the switch (when we check the meter). We measure the magnitude of the piston is down. If this measure is higher than desired progress means that there is too much progress, and will have to delay the ignition, that is, remove the dish and turn the stator in the direction of clockwise. And vice versa.
--- slow down right-turn stator
--- Forward progress counterclockwise rotating stator
Once fully covered the advance, we put the connection Mobile Paw switch ...
... we make sure they are tightened the screws of the stator ...
... place of new steering wheel ...
... and we can consciously tighten the nut (thread inverted)
Checking on with strobe light.
The strobe light is a curious device that emits a flash of light at the right time when the spark at the plug. With the motor running, cause a series of flashes that "freeze" the movement appreciated by our eyes. We
a series of marks on the plate for the desired feed point, faced with another brand at a fixed point in the crankcase.
connected the unit to a 12V supply (eg battery) and insert the corresponding clip on the spark plug wire. This clip acts as a signal transducer. When it detects that the current passes spark plug wires, will light the lamp.
Start the engine and turn on the lamp, focusing the light toward the brands that we have in the wheel. The movement will be frozen just at the moment the spark, so we'll see if at that point just above the marks are properly carried faced.
A couple of sample videos. When the lamp is not in focus, we see nothing (motion = blur). When the lamp focus, we see the marks at the time of the spark (freezes the movement of the eye). Needless to say, in full sun will not see anything ...
If the marks are not aligned need to make the dish, adjust the position of the stator and rechecked.
And since we are the Lamp, play a little, and we can see the points through the window plate ...
